| | My Philosophy
Our lives move faster and faster as we are bombarded by more and more information. Sometimes, as we rush by moving from meeting to meeting, trying to satisfy our obligations and deadlines, we might forget that there is another component to our lives.
In addition to facts there is wisdom. I define wisdom as knowledge thought through and thought about. This wisdom allows us to decide what we value, to recognize what is truly important and to remember to focus on those things.
The secret is slowing down and thinking about where we are and what we are doing. One powerful way to stop and pay attention to the important is by organizing for and acting out a powerful moment – a ritual- for want of a better word.
The wedding ceremony is potentially one of the most powerful rituals of our lives.
The secret is two people taking a moment to reflect on what brings them to this place and time. In the process, we also become aware of our guests as audience and as witness. In addition, we can choose personal and cultural artifacts that can help make the ceremony personal and satisfying.
My job is to listen with an open heart and to see clearly what these two people desire and to reflect that reality back so fully expressed they say “Of course, that’s it! That’s exactly what we wanted!!”
That means I have done my work well.
